Tiny But Mighty + No Fishy Burps or Aftertaste

Krill Oil Plus is a high-quality, sustainably-harvested krill oil that’s rich in EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids that come in the form of phospholipids. That’s important, because phospholipids are easier for the body to absorb than the triglyceride form of omega-3s found in fish oil and algae.

And because they absorb so well, krill oil’s omega-3s don’t sit on the surface of your stomach contents, which can result in reflux and that gross aftertaste that can come with fish oil.

Krill Oil vs. Fish Oil

While many Americans get their omega-3 fatty acids in the form of fish oil, a growing body of research suggests krill oil has some distinct advantages over fish oil.

More Bioavailability Means Less is More

The highly absorbable phospholipid form of DHA and EPA in krill oil makes them a more efficient source of omega-3s than the triglyceride form in fish oil. In fact, studies show that it takes about 37% less krill oil than fish oil to achieve the same omega-3 blood levels (600 mg Krill Plus = 1000 mg of fish oil).

Phospholipids Importance for Immunity and Cell Health

Humans need phospholipids to support healthy cell function and growth, as well as to promote healthy immune and liver function. Unfortunately, our levels tend to naturally decrease with age, and modern-day diets contain only about a third of the phospholipids they used to 100 years ago. Supplementing with krill oil — which has omega-3s in phospholipid form — can help keep those phospholipid stores stocked.

Humans need sufficient levels of phospholipids to ensure optimal cell function, cell growth, and the generation of new cells. In fact, phospholipids have been shown to help boost brain health and have protective effects against heart disease and liver disease, poor immune function, stress, depression, and more.

48x the Antioxidant Power of Fish Oil

All omega-3s have some antioxidant action, but krill oil contains a naturally-occurring antioxidant called astaxanthin that’s not present in fish oil. Astaxanthin has been linked with promoting heart, liver, joint, eye, and prostate health, as well as supporting recovery from exercise. Thanks to astaxanthin, krill oil has 48 times the antioxidant power of fish oil. You can also credit astaxanthin for krill oil’s vibrant ruby-red color, and the fact that it can be stored at room temperature without risk of oxidation.

Brain-Supporting Choline

An essential vitamin-like nutrient, choline is best known for promoting a healthy brain and cognitive function, but it also supports a healthy heart and liver as well as normal sleep and metabolism. We can produce a small amount of choline in the liver, but it’s not enough to meet our needs, so we must get some from our diet. While krill oil contains choline (found in the phosphatidylcholine), fish oil doesn’t — important news, since 90% of the American population has an inadequate intake of choline.

How Krill Oil Plus Works

Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are a special group of polyunsaturated fats termed “essential” because they cannot be synthesized by the body and must be obtained from dietary sources. Getting enough EFAs to survive is generally not a problem because they are abundant in the foods we eat, but getting the right ratio of the right types is a different story altogether.

Krill Oil Plus provides beneficial omega-3 fatty acids for counterbalancing omega-6 fatty acids found in most other foods. An optimal omega-3 to omega-6 ratio is extremely important for maintaining a healthy balance of chemical messengers in the body called prostaglandins. Omega-3 fatty acids are also important for protecting cell membranes of all the cells in the body from damaging free radicals.

Sustainably Harvested in Antarctica

Krill Oil Plus is sourced from the purest ocean in the world: The Antarctic. Because krill are at the very bottom of the food chain and live in oceans where there is very limited commercial traffic, there is low risk of toxins or metals (like mercury) associated with consuming krill oil from a trusted source. Additionally, Krill Oil Plus is quality tested for purity by an independent third party.

The Vital Plan team selected krill oil as our omega-3 product with sustainability in mind, as krill is one of earth’s most abundant and sustainable organisms. Maximal krill harvest is predicted to affect only 1% of the total Antarctic supply, and this is continually audited by an independent nonprofit organization that oversees sustainable fishery operations worldwide.

Eco-Friendly and 100% Traceable

As a certified B-Corporation®, Vital Plan is committed to sustainability in all of our products and decisions. This commitment is why we chose Superba™ Krill Oil as our omega-3 supplier.

They follow strictly controlled fishing practices. Superba is the only krill oil certified as sustainable and 100% traceable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).

63° 20' S, 60° 23' W

Not only are sustainable fishing practices beneficial for the environment, they are beneficial for you as well. Superba is harvested using a specially designed Eco-Harvesting® system that safely releases anything other than Euphausia superba (the species of krill found in the Antarctic) to eliminate by-catch.

The system also keeps the krill underwater during transport into the factory vessel for immediate processing, ensuring the freshest product. This process differs from traditional krill fishing practices, where the catch is pulled out of the water and emptied into holding tanks before processing. These traditional methods can cause the krill’s own enzymes to degrade product quality.
