4 Tips to Keep the Holidays in Perspective
by Vital Plan | December 23, 2016
The holidays are a time of joy, love, and gratitude, but it can all easily become overwhelming. Don’t let the stress of gifts, travel, and expectations take away from the things that are most important.
Here are 4 tips to bring you back to center this holiday season:
1. Keep it simple. There is beauty to be found in the simplicity of holiday music, the soft lighting of candles, the tradition of movies and board games, cooking in a warm kitchen, and sharing a holiday meal with family or close friends. It’s easy to pursue perfection and make things overly complex, but challenge yourself to let it go and embrace the simple pleasures.
2. Look to the peace within. The holiday is a beautiful time for worship, prayer, and reflection. Don’t get so wrapped up with presents, movies, and chatter that you miss the chance for quiet, meaningful moments. No matter where you are this holiday, focus on the simple rituals and practices that can connect you back to joyful memories.
3. Be willing to share your heart. Remember to give the most important gifts of all – love, compassion, and understanding. Work to be a force of peace and goodwill, especially to those who are different from you. These are gifts you can give this holiday season that will mean more than anything money can buy.
4. Take time for self care. When you’re good to yourself, you will have the energy to better serve others. Try to find time this season to recharge and even pamper yourself, so you can head into the new year with a refreshed mind, body and soul. This includes being mindful of what you consume (whether it’s sugary foods or incessant media), and surrounding yourself with positive people with whom you can be fully present.
We hope these tips will help you make the most of these upcoming weeks. As you prepare to spend time with loved ones, we extend our warmest wishes for joyful holiday.
